Celeste Johnson -- Kankakee Visitation for Celeste M. Johnson, 83, of Kankakee, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she was a lifelong member. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She died Wednesday (May 9, 2007) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Johnson cooked and cleaned for the priests at St. Rose. She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Kankakee, the daughter of William and Alice Lambert Genshaw. Her husband, Donald L. Johnson, whom she married Aug. 8, 1942, died July 2, 1987. She was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph Seminary, where she was valedictorian. She was an associate of the Congregation of Notre Dame. She was a member of the Moose in Bradley, TOPS, and the Kankakee Sportsman's Club. She enjoyed crossword puzzles. Surviving are five sons and five daughters-in-law, Donald "Corky" and Donna Johnson of Manteno, Kenneth and Barb Johnson of Kankakee, Brian and Carla Johnson of Manteno, Tim and Mary Johnson of Oswego, Gene Johnson of Kankakee, Mary Johnson of Bradley; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Bill Poole of Kankakee; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Pat Dupuis of Kankakee, Dolores and Fred Eckhardt of Florida; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Genshaw of Clinton. Deceased are one son, David L. Johnson; and one brother, William Donald Genshaw.
