William V. Cunningham passed away on May 8, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Bill was born in County Down, North Ireland on January 16, 1935 to James and Eileen (Poland) Cunningham.
He emigrated to the United States in 1954 and joined the U.S. Army, and became a U.S. citizen while stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. Bill then settled in Mount Vernon, where he met his wife, Ricki (Joan) Aurrichio. They married in 1964 and moved to Rockland County in 1968.
Bill is survived by his wife and son, Bill D. Cunningham, his brothers Jim (Maisie), and Frank (Eilish), and his sister Rita (Brian) McElroy of County Down, North Ireland. He was predeceased by brothers Brian, Eugene, and Alphonsus of County Down and brother Malachy of Edison, New Jersey.
Bill worked in the composing room of The Journal News in White Plains and Nyack for many years. He is currently a member of VFW Post #851.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, with burial to follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
