His Regiment surrendered at Richmond, Va., at the close of the war and he returned home, where on 21 Dec. 1865 he was married to Nancy P Leverett at her home in Nelville, Ala., by Rev. Geo. Belle.
To this union was born six children, viz: W. M. Moody, deceased, C.L. Moody of Dawson, Texas, N.P. Moody, deceased, Mrs. M.K. Owen of La Salle, Texas, J.N. Moody, Jr., Prairie Hill, Texas, and W.O. Wheeler of Bryan, Texas. 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends who recognize the loss of one who has been dear to all.
In 1871 Mr. Moody with his family moved to Texas, settling in Grimes and Montgomery counties until 1875 when he moved to Personville and shortly afterward to the old Moody home one mile east of La Salle, at which place he spent the greater part of his life until his death on the night of Jan. 19th, Uncle John as everybody knew him had been in ill health for the last 4 years and death was only a relief to him from his suffering, he was 75 years, 1 month and 16 days old. At the age of 16, Uncle John made a profession of Faith in Jesus Christ and joined the M.E. Church south, which church he continued in fellowship with until 1898, at which time the Church at Old Bethel was disbanded and since that time he has had no church affiliations. He was a man with a heart of sympathy and love for his fellowman. His wife who survives him has lost a faithful companion, children a loving father, and his friends a royal and faith neighbor. His remains were laid to rest in the Old Bethel cemetery Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, Jan. 20th. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the First Free Baptist church of Bryan, Rev. C.C. Wheeler, a nephew of the deceased, sermon being drawn from John. 14:6. "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" C.C.W.
