Henriette Ida Julia Ziegfeld was born in Columbus, OH, on January 11, 1894. After a two year course in the Columbus Normal School, she taught school for five years, after which she left to enter the business world. She worked in various offices, mostly as a typist. She went back to teaching for another half a year and then volunteered for work in India and was sent there as an educational worker in 1921. She met Bernhard Strasen, a missionary worker, on the boat going to India, and they married on June 27, 1923. They had six children, all born in India. They returned to the United States in 1951, where Bernhard served as pastor in Wartburg, IL, Cecil, WI, and Indianapolis, IN as assistant pastor when he retired. They moved to Fort Wayne, IN in 1970. Bernhard died in 1971, after which Henriette lived in an apartment in Fort Wayne. She lived in the Lutheran Home in Fort Wayne for her last year, where she died on February 4, 1976.
