WINDSOR, VT Jolene E. Austin, 54, of Windsor, passed away Wednesday morning, March 24 in Sunapee, New Hampshire from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born November 12, 1955 in Windsor the daughter of Robert J. and Pearl L. (Scott) Whitcomb. She received her schooling in Windsor where she graduated from Windsor High School in 1973. She attended Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA, Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL and graduated from Castleton State College in Castleton in 1981, earning her teaching degree and a degree in special education. She married Gary A. Austin in Windsor on May 23, 1981. She began her teaching career in Windsor and went on to teach special education at Stevens High School in Claremont for three years. She later taught at North Street Elementary School for twelve years and was currently teaching fourth grade at Bluff Elementary School in Claremont. She loved her students and her students loved her. She enjoyed spending time at the beach and ocean. She enjoyed fishing, shopping, volleyball, and relaxing in her swimming pool. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and having family barbeques. She was predeceased by her father in 1983. Survivors include her husband, Gary of Windsor, her mother, Pearl Whitcomb of Windsor, one daughter, Heidi Austin of Windsor, three brothers, Roger Whitcomb and his wife Linda of Windsor and Ft. Myers, FL, Ronald Whitcomb and his wife Kathy of Windsor and Jay Whitcomb of Windsor, several nieces and nephews, one stepdaughter, Tina of Claremont and five step grandchildren. Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor on Sunday evening, March 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 29 at 2:00 PM at the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor with the Rev. Amanda Lape-Freeberg, Pastor, officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church hall. Committal services will be held at a later date in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bluff School Scholarship Fund, C/O Melba Merrifield at 2 Summit Road, Claremont, NH 03743.
