PANHANDLE - Graveside funeral rites for Unice [sic] LaRue Lanning, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Panhandle Cemetery with Rev. Steve Vernon, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Lanning died Saturday at Las Crusas [sic], N.M., following a long illness.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Fox Funeral Home of Panhandle.

Mrs. Lanning was born May 6, 1902 in Alvord, Texas. She came to Panhandle in 1925. She was married to Samuel Lanning Aug. 16, 1925 in Borger.

Her husband preceeded her in death Nov. 25, 1984 and a sister, Faye Box of Borger died in 1981.

She attended Decauter Baptist College. She was a member of Panhandle First Baptist Church and a charter of the Altruian Club. She and her husband were owner-operators of the Texas Hotel in Panhandle from 1943 to April, 1974.

Survivors are a son, Bill Lanning, of Boulder, Colo., a daughter, Doris Anne Datson of Las Crusas [sic], N.M.; a sister, O'Dell Coffee of Mojave, Calif.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Square House Museum in Panhandle.
