He is survived by his wife Dorothy; a son David and wife Sue of Victor; a daughter, DeAnn McConnell of Brooklyn; five grandchildren, Kelsey Smith, and Kayla Smith, both of Brooklyn, Wes Cooling (Kari) of Cedar Rapids, Les Cooling (Casie) of Victor, and Phillip Cooling of Hartwick; five great-grandchildren, Abby Smith, Connor, Camren, Landen, and Drew Cooling. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Mildred Reimers, Alice Miller, and Opal Swatosh.
Daniel Andrew McConnell, Jr. was born December 24, 1932 in Malcom, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Nellie Mae Smith McConnell. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1951 and married Dorothy Lievens on October 16, 1955 in Grinnell. Daniel was employed for 22 years with Manatts and then worked for Brooklyn Municipal Utilities for 15 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, and was a past member of the Brooklyn Fire Department and the East Poweshiek Ambulance Service. Daniel enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending sporting events and playing cards.
