1st Lt. Ozbolt was a pilot with the 839 AAF Bomber Group, stationed in England during WWII. On July 20th 1944, he was killed while piloting a B-24 Bomber of the 836th bomb squadron from the 487th bombardment group based at Lavenham airfield. His aircraft collided with another aircraft, a B-17G Flying Fortress also based at Lavenham.

From the St. Petersburg Times, August 11, 1944.

1st Lt. David L. Ozbolt, 23, USAAF pilot of a B-24 Liberator, died as a result of an airplane accident July 20 in Cavendish, England, according to word received Sunday by his brother, Velim Ozbolt. No details were released in the official message from the War Department.

Overseas since last March, Lt. Ozbolt had been stationed with a bombardment squadron in England. In his last letter to his brother, dated July 15 and received the day the young flier was killed, he wrote that he hoped to be home by Christmas. By that time, the lieutenant, who has over 1,500 flying hours to his credit in four-motored planes, was sure that he would have fulfilled all his missions.

A graduate of schools at Dothan, Lt. Ozbolt was also associated with National Airlines in Tallahassee and Eastern Airlines in Montgomery Alabama before his enlistment in the Air Force...

He was survived by his brothers Velim and Bernand, a sister Mrs. O.L. Baker and his mother, Mrs. Lola Ozbolt.
