Afton Irene Hogan Martin, age 87, died April 10, 2010 at Avalon Valley Rehabilitation Center in South Salt Lake, Utah. She resided at 3739 South Granger Drive (2915 West) in the Granger area of West Valley City, Utah at the time of her death.

Born March 27, 1923 in Lake Point, Utah to Jerusha Yates Hogan and Arthur M. Hogan. Married Sherman S. Martin on April 25, 1942 in American Falls, Idaho.

Afton was an avid nature lover; her glorious yard full of flowers and vegetables was a constant source of pride and joy. She had a special talent to make anything grow; if it had a root she could make it bloom. She was truly the most loving, generous, kind, and selfless person. Her love of life, family, and nature inspired all those around her.

She was a talented homemaker and seamstress who also enjoyed quilting with many family members through the years. She and Sherman traveled extensively in their retirement throughout the western US and Canada, enjoying the deserts of California to the coastline of British Columbia. Afton was a strong, yet graceful woman, who left a positive and loving impression on all those who knew her, she was a true lady.

Survivors: sons, Allen S. Martin and Steven A. Martin; sister, Erma Donahue and Brother Cliff Hogan; daughter in law, Rosemary Geis Martin; grandchildren, Michelle, Hilary, Michael, Scott and Alyssa; great-grand children, Davis, Mia, Paige, Taylor, Corbin and Marissa. Predeceased by husband, Sherman and son George. brother Arthur Hogan and sisters Mahala Gillespie and Thelma Martin; daughter-in-law, Patricia Christensen Martin.

Gravesite Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 14, 2010 at Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
