Harold is my paternal grandfather. My chief memories of my grandparents are from my childhood, when we used to gather at their house on Boxing Day, Easter and sometimes birthdays and other special days. Sometimes we used to just go for Sunday dinner. I always remember him puttering around in the kitchen, I remember him more than my Nana taking care of the cooking. He made great mashed swede. He was my "Biscuit Grandad" (so named because he always had biscuits for the kids). It was Biscuit Grandad who first told me I talked in my sleep after I stayed with them one time when my parents were away - a problem I still have today :) He had a huge bar-sized whisky bottle which he and Nana threw their change in all year long, at Christmas he'd tip it out on the floor and us kids would count it and share it out. Between him and Nana he was definitely the quieter and more laid back of the two! As I recall as a child he was a funny and sweet man and I really think I had two of the best grandads any kid could wish for.

He served with the London Fire Brigade and was a crew member of the Massey Shaw during World War II, which took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk.
