Ray Cooper was born in South Dakota, one of 13 kids born to Claude and Martha Devitt Cooper. The Cooper family moved from South Dakota to Mille Lacs Co., Minnesota about 1927. Ray Cooper married Lois Heismeyer in 1943 in Estilline, South Dakota. The Ray Cooper family lived many years in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, but Ray eventually returned to Mille Lacs Co., living in Foreston and farming. He died of lung cancer in 1977 at age 54.
