Fred Louis Fortenberry, 75, died Jan. 1 7, 1999, at Mount Grant Hospital. A native of Helena, Ark., he was born Jan. 24, 1923, to George and Eliza L. (Holloway) Fortenberry, and had lived in Hawthorne since 1966. Fortenberry was a school bus driver in Mineral County and retired from civil service at the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and served in the Army front lines in Germany during World War II. Surviving are wife, Dorothy and daughter, Carolyn Goforth, both of Hawthorne; sister, Mildred Skipper of Sparks; brother, Ray of Jackson, Miss.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Gunter's Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled from 9 until the 11 a.m. Saturday funeral at the funeral home, with burial at Hawthorne Cemetery.
