P. R. MERRYFIELD LAID TO
REST AT WINNEBAGO, ILL.

Preston R. Merryfield was born on Winnebago, Ill., Nov. 14, 1861, and passed away in the Mary Greely hospital at Ames on May 4, 1926. Mr. Merryfield was taken ill with heart trouble on December 19th, but his family felt he had almost entirely recovered as he was up and around the house, when he was suddenly stricken with apoplexy while at the supper table on May 1st and passed away at the hospital three days later.

The remains were taken to Winnebago, Illinois, his old home, for burial beside his parents and one sister.

Mr. Merryfield was united in marriage to Miss Sue A. Gorham at Winnebago, in 1886. Three [Four] children were born to this union, Mrs. Frank Edward (Margaret) Mixa of Ames, Mrs. Elmer Lawrence (Ruth) Kaser of Adel and Marc Merryfield [1902-1981] of Ames.

Mr. and Mrs. Merryfield moved to Spirit Lake in 1898, where he spent fourteen years in the hardware business. Since disposing of his business he had been an active traveling salesman. Mr. Merryfield was a kind and devoted husband and father and was always intensely interested in and loyal to Spirit Lake.
