Mr. Abraham P. Westbrook
The death of this veteran centenarian took place at his residence on Granville Street, in Newark, Oct. 10th, 1880. He was born in Luzerne County, Penn., on the 2nd day of Sept., 1778, and had therefore attained to the great age of one hundred and two years, one month and eight days!
Mr. Westbrook was a resident of Western Virginia in 1812, and was called into the military service, during our late war with England. Soon after said war, he removed to Muskingum Co., OH, and from thence in 1841 he moved to Newark where he ever after lived. He had a number of sons and daughters, some of whom survive the aged patriarch.
The deceased was a quiet, unpretentious, upright, moral man, and discharged his duties with the fidelity that became a good citizen. The funeral obsequies were conducted by Rev. E. I. Jones, of the Congregational Church, and the remains were deposited in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
