From pension papers he seems to be the soldier from Company D 120th OVI [Ohio Volunteer Infantry]. It is possible that the grave inscription was misread. I can't find him listed in any 26th regiment from any Union state. I have been researching the men of 120th OVI for the last 10 years. A researcher contacted me and told me about the pension papers pointing to this Alexander Anderson who was born and raised in Lewistown, Mifflin, PA. He used an alias, John S. Fortney, and that caused me a lot of confusion and identification of the wrong man.
