J. W. Cook was born in Dyer County, on March 25, 1925 to Johnnie Herd Cook and Simon Samuel Cook.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Cook of Memphis, and Margret Alexander of Huntingdon; three brothers, Nugin Cook of Dyersburg, Boyd Cook of Dyersburg, and Will Cook of Big Sandy.
He is survived by a brother, Auther Coley Cook of Dyersburg; a son Charles T. Cook of McKenzie; and three daughters, Ella Jean Turner of Trenton, Vivian Martin and Nicky Lynch, both of Bradford; eight grandchildren, Brad Cook, Brent Cook, Brandon Coffman, Britney Chandler, Caitlin Cook, Dakota Cook, Benjamin Cook, and Joesph Lynch; and by two great grandchildren, Hannah and Chloe Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations by made to Hospice of West Tennessee.
