MOFFIT.-At his home at New Olivet, at 10 o'clock Wednesday evening, Jan. 6th, 1892, Mr. William Moffit, aged 78 years, 1 month and 17 days.
Mr. Moffit was born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 19, 1813. For a time he lived in Ohio. In 1838 he was married to Miss Jane Shields. They came to Cedar county in 1853. To them were born eight children, of which five yet survive. But a few hours before his death he was able to be about his place, and we doubt that any one thought that God should so soon call him to take up his abode in that better world. He was a member of no church, but attended well the teachings of all denominations. He contributed largely to the church (New Olivet) in which his mortal spirit shall tread no more. The funeral services were conducted at the New Olivet church, by Rev. J. W. Hubbard, of Mechanicsville, and a large procession of relatives and friends followed the corpse to its last resting place in the Sand Hill Cemetery. He leaves a wife, two sons and three daughters, and many friends to mourn his untimely taking away.
