"George left his home for Pennsylvania, in 1699. He and other family members were members of the Society of Friends. His departure for Pennsylvania is recorded in the minutes of Rossendale Preparative Meeting, Lancashire. George "the Emmigrant", accompanied his elder sister Alice and her husband John Kenworthy and their small children on the ship Britannia; the ship was called "that sick ship from Liverpool" as there was a deadly typhus epidemic on board. George's sister, small son and newborn baby all died, but John Kenworthy and George survived. George came from a sheep and cattle raising area, called Gambleside, in southwest Lancashire. People were small farmers and many had a few sheep and were part of a cottage industry of weavers. George lived in Bristol, Pennsylvania for a few years, doing "piece weaving", and saving his money to buy land. In 1702 he bought 450 acres in the north corner of Buckingham Township, Bucks County. He and his wife Sarah Scarborough were married in 1710 at Falls Monthly Meeting; they were founding members of Buckingham Monthly Meeting, and this is where George was buried. His will was dated "27th day of the eleventh month called Janiwary in the year of our Lord 1725". Uncovered evidence suggest that his death must have occurred after March 25, 1725. The will was probated 6th June 1725."

Sarah Scarborough and George Haworth became the founders of the Haworth family in America.
