Sandra Lynn Ruark

Sandra Lynn Ruark, 69, of Toledo, Ore., died May 1, 2010 at her home.

She was born Oct. 10, 1940, to Marine Corps Lt. Col. Jack Franklin Warner and Gwendolyn Love Warner in Quantico, Va. She grew up in Coronado, Calif. After graduation from high school, she married Clyde "Bud" Hayes in 1958. They had two children, Michael and Christine.

Widowed in 1964, she met and married Gary Hayner, who was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. She lived in Concord, Calif. and moved with Gary to Milwaukie, Oregon after he completed his service. They had three children, Juliann, and twins Melissa and Russell. She was an excellent homemaker and seamstress, a member and Sunday school teacher of Concord Christian Church in Milwaukie.

In 1977, she graduated with honors from Clackamas Community College with an Associate of Science degree in accounting. She owned and operated Town and Country Paving and A-l Striping Company for more than 10 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Gwendolyn Warner; her son, Michael Bradley Hayes; and son-in-law, Paul Allan Roush III.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, William Ruark; daughters, Christine (Steve) Elizabeth Will of Fortune, Calif., Juliann (Richard) Marguerite Dammeier of Newport, and Melissa Lynn Roush of Newport; son, Russell (Lisa Hayner) Gary of Newport; brother, Jeff Warner of Chicago; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, traveling, oil painting, and collecting antiques. One of her greatest joys was having all of children and grandchildren over to cook delicious dinners so they could all be together for the holidays. She believed in strong family ties and traditions.

A viewing and service in her honor will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Newport at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 7, followed by interment at the Eureka Cemetery.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association, online at http://www.psp.org.
