Joanne Marie Clapham-Valassis (nee Rummer), 80, of LaGrange, passed away Monday, November 23, 2009, following a short illness. She was born September 6, 1929 in Alliance.

Joanne was a 1947 Lyden McKinley High School graduate. She was a volunteer at EMH Regional Medical Center and knitted hats and booties for the hospital nursery. She was active for many years with LaPorte Hotstove and Elyria High School volleyball concessions. Joanne loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially with their sporting events. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting and loved her dog, Cody. Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Lynn Behne(Michael) of LaGrange and Cheryl Currence(David Palmer) of Grafton; three sons, Michael Clapham(Jean) of LaGrange, Richard Clapham(Marsha) of North Ridgeville and Scott Clapham(Cindy) of Elyria. Additional survivors include 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four sisters, Mary Crawford of Columbus, Barbara Castro(Tony) of Grandville, Iona Grashel of Phoenix, Arizona and Marilyn Clapham of Columbus. She was preceded in death by husbands, Carl Clapham in 1979 and Robert Valassis in 1998.
