Veteran: Civil War (CSA)

h/o 1st Clarrissa "Clare" Malinda Elizabeth Webb, 2nd Blanche Howell.

Birth: 1st of twelve known children in Slate Mills, Rappahannock county, Virginia

A confederate solider, a private in, a private out, with 9th Battalion, Missouri Sharpshooters serving in Arkansas & Louisiana. Arkansas battles of Helena, Gen U S Grant's main location for his Vicksburg campaign following his decesive defeat 20 December 1862 at Holly Springs, Marshall county, Mississippi which delayed his Vicksburg campaign nearly a year, then later at Jenkins' Ferry, in Louisiana, The Red River campaign's, Pleasant Hill battle, which caused Gen N P Banks to give up his desire to capture Shreveport.

They disbanded spring 1865 and he went to Texas, married 1st wife, had two children before settling in Jasper county, Missouri to have two more children and becoming a successful mine operator, 1883 builder (with I N Lester) of the Grand Opera House in Webb City, later known as Middlewest Hotel, real estate owner and 1915, bank director of Carthage National Bank, #4815 at 401 S Main with brother-in-law George B Wood, Jim Luke and others, which merged in 1921 after 29 years serving Carthage with 1868 created Bank of Carthage.

The Jasper County Camp 522, United Confederate Veterans was formed which he became a member with fellow veterans and a state encampment occurred in September 1906 at Joplin where in May 1909 the Grand Army of the Republic assembled.

After loss of two sons, one in 1871 other in 1876, he became interested in various mining enterprises. Among his were the Eleventh Hour Mines and the McCorkle Hill Mines, of which he is sole owner. More than two million dollars' worth of lead and zinc ore has been taken from the Eleventh Hour Mine during sixteen years, and the McCorkle Hill Mine has produced half a million dollars' worth of ore. These operations have made Mr. Aylor a conspicuous figure among the mine magnates of southwest Missouri, and there are few men in the State whose operations have been so uniformly successful as have his. (partially from Judge McGregor's 1901 book)

He and I N Lester built the Grand Opera building of Webb City in 1883, later to become the Middlewest Hotel.

He once leased 160 acres for deep shaft (245 ft) mining from his wife's older sister, Mrs E J Chinn, of Webb City with his adjoining 40 acres, paying her 7-1/2 % royalties.

Wife "Clare" died in 1899, having bore him three known boys and a girl, with "Clare" being a first cousin of John Cornwall Webb, founder of Webb City, Missouri and an early successful pioneer in ore minning, thereby, making Joesph a second cousin to John's daughter, Martha Ellen (Webb) Hall ~ ~ Joesph remarried two years later in 1901.
