Mobile Press-Register, Saturday, Nov. 11, 1911:
"Miss Corinna Kirkbride, who will be one of the bridesmaids at the beautiful wedding of Miss Virginia Herndon and Mr. Wythe Lawler Whiting on the fourteenth instant, entertained the bridal party at a party of the Mobile theatre Friday evening to see the noted Eva Tanguay in 'Little Miss Fix-It,' followed by a supper at her home." (Mobile Press Register, Nov. 11, 2011, p.A2 "Yesterday's News.")
The Kirkbride home is now called the Charlotte-Conde House Museum.

Mobile Press-Register, Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1911: "In Christ Episcopal Church, Tuesday evening at twilight, a beautiful wedding was celebrated when Mrs. Stanley Bell Herndon gave in marriage her eldest daughter, Virginia, to Mr. Wythe Lawler Whiting, the eldest son of General and Mrs. J.W. Whiting. This union of the Whiting and Herndon families -- two of the most aristocratic and prominent in the whole South -- is of universal interest not alone in Mobile, the home city, but throughout the state and in Virginia and Tennessee also."

Virginia Herndon Whiting served as Lady in Waiting to Queen Helen Buck Taylor in the Mardi Gras court of 1911. Helen Buck Taylor lived across the street from Virginia at 910 Government which was built by Joel Abbot Roberts and his wife Mary Taylor Bolles Roberts, both cousins of Virginia Herndon Whiting, Joel through the Herndons and his wife through the Taylors.

Mobile Register, Feb. 8, 1980, p.D-2:
Mrs. Virginia Herndon Whiting, a native of Nashville, Tenn., and a resident of Mobile for 83 years, died in a local nursing home Wednesday, February 6, 1980. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and is survived by one son, Wythe Lawler Whiting, Jr., of Mobile; one sister, Mrs. Martin L.(Lyon) Horst of Mobile; five grandchildren, Wythe Lawler Whiting III, Thomas B. Whiting and Mrs. David (Ann) Akridge, all of Mobile, Mrs. Charles (Corinne) Graddick of Montgomery, and Lt. Allen McLeod Nibbs of Jamul, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Private funeral services will be held from the chapel of Belmany Funeral Home with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church….
Judge Graddick (Charles Graddick Sr.) was elected Attorney General of Alabama, 1978 and 1982.

The Four Gospel Writers
The three windows in the north vestibule were also made by Willet-Hauser Architectural Glass firm of Winona, Minnesota and are the last to have been installed. The top window depicting the four writers of the Gospels was given To the Glory of God and in Memory of General Julian Wythe Whiting 1838-1917, Ida Lawler Whiting August 8, 1850 - April 28, 1919. The transom window depicts the symbols of the Gospel writers. The inscription reads: Wythe Lawler Whiting October 6, 1884 - 1939, Virginia Herndon Whiting November 20, 1890 - February 6, 1980. The bottom window shows the flags that have flown over Mobile with a banner stating, "Into his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise." Psalm 100. the inscription reads: Wythe L. Whiting, Jr. October 11, 1912 - May 3, 1990, Corinne Glass Cook Whiting January 12, 1914-November 24, 2008.

The Herndons descended from the House of Weir (de Vere) in Scotland.
