Actor. Born in Wellington, England, he was a British character performer best known for portraying roles as a villains in many Hollywood films from the 1925 to the early 1950s. After a brief stage career, he resettled in America and made his big screen debut in "The Knockout" (1925). His most notable roles were as Thamal, the hulking henchman to Bela Lugosi's character in "The Black Cat" (1934) and as a castle villain in "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938). He also appeared in 8 Universal Studios Sherlock Holmes films, "Night Beat" (1931), "A Christmas Coral" (1938), "Sudan" (1945) and "Against All Flags" (1952). He died at age 63 in Sun Valley, California.
