Flay Hensley, 95, of the Swiss community of Burnsville, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at the Memorial campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late A.P. and Texanna Tomberlin Hensley. He was a vocational teacher at Cane River High School, a school bus driver for 20 years and a retired farmer. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and dedicated his life to his church and family.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Lydia Ingle Hensley; daughter, Susan Hensley of Asheville; son, Timothy Hensley and wife, Donna, of Burnsville; sister, Jennie Howell of Clyde; granddaughter, Lauren Brooke Hensley and grandson, Timothy Ryan Hensley.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, of which he was a member, deacon and served as chorister for 50 years. The Revs. Jerry Shelton and Richard Muri will officiate.
