"NORTHPORT - Mabel K. Olson, 89, of Northport, died Tuesday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Born April 20, 1910, in Northport, she was the daughter of Oscar Harry and Elizabeth (Gagnon) Kitchen. On Sept. 26, 1934, in Northport, she married Alfred G. Olson, who preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1970. Mabel taught at the Solem School for a few years after graduation. She also worked for Anderson's General Store in Northport for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo and attended Trinity Church in Northport. She is survived by three nieces, Jean (Buster) Dame of Northport, Rosalie (James) Hooper of Lansing and Catherine (George) Brown of Traverse City; seven nephews, Warren (Dorothy) Stowe, of Ludington, Dick (Maxine) Stowe of Grand Rapids, James (Iva) Stowe of Northport, Basil (Barbara) Stowe of Northport, Donald (Patricia) Mikowski of Traverse City, Lawrence (Marilyn) Mikowski of Traverse City and George Mikowski of Traverse City; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Stowe, Mertle Stowe, Frances Mikowski and Marion Teron; and two nieces. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Church of Christ in Northport, where friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service; Rev. Joseph Ripley will officiate. Burial will be in Leelanau Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Church of Christ." -- Traverse City Record-Eagle, 18 November 1999 edition.
