Ruth Howell Adkins May 04, 2010
Ruth Howell Adkins, 83, of Big Creek, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 4th, 2010. A native of Yancey County, she was the last living of eleven children of the late James and Hezzie McCurry Howell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Adkins, who passed away in 1969 and sisters: Agness Peterson, Naomi Bryant and Ruetta Bryant; brothers: Curtiss, John, Foltsom, Bayard, Ralph, Coy and Raleigh Howell. Ruth was a homemaker and one of the oldest living members of Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church who loved to read her Bible, crochet, go to church and baby sit. Ruth was known for loving kids, but mostly her family and will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving is her children: Burdella Edwards and husband, Michael of Erwin, TN; Yvonne Peterson and husband, Larry, E.J. Adkins and wife, Tonya, Priscilla Honeycutt and husband, Donnie, Felicia Honeycutt and husband, Tony, all of Big Creek, Mary Fouladi and husband, Moe, of Newport Beach, CA, Weldon Adkins, Teresa Banks and husband, Rick, all of Burnsville; grandchildren: Anthony and David Edwards, Nicholas Peterson, Shalon Tapp, Reanna Effler, Bobby Fouladi, Dakota and McKenna Adkins, Nick Wright, Brannigan, Vance, Kayla, and Abigail Honeycutt, Malachi, Alisha, and Allison Banks; great-grandchildren: Davey, Dale, Dalton and Carissa Edwards, Zeb and Alex Peterson, Riley Tapp and Lane Honeycutt. Many nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p. m. on Saturday, May 8th, in Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Marvin Hensley and Reed Bagby officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p. m. on Friday at Yancey Funeral Services, where the body will remain until taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to Hospice of Yancey County for the wonderful care given to Ruth during her illness and would encourage memorial donations to be made to them at 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 2871
