Sophia was born, one of sixteen children, in Scotch Ridge, Wood County, Ohio. Her father was a homeopathic doctor who had immigrated from Canada and her mother had been born post-humously after her father was killed in an Indian uprising. When Sophia was 18, she married Darius Scott on November 12, 1862 in Wood County. He was 49 and a widower who had first married Charlotte Fletcher in Hilgay, Norfolk, England on 18 October 1832. He was already the father of six children whom he brought to America after Charlotte's death...the family immigrated about 1851. Sophia and Darius had nine children: Charles, Minnie, William, Bertron, Robert, Melanie, Eva, Darius, and Seth. In 1900, they were living in Defiance County and then moved to Michigan where Darius passed away in 1903 at the age of ninety. On 4 September 1907 in Defiance County, Sophia married William Wood, a farmer, who was the son of John and Rhuhama Suverns Wood and was born in Wabash, Indiana. He was 21 years her junior. In 1910, Lulu, the daughter of Isaac and Eva Scott Wing was living with them. Sophia died in 1911 at the age of sixty-seven.
