Ruth I. Guard, age 99, a former resident of rural Pennville and a former resident Crown Pointe for 5 years, passed away on April 16, 2010 at Persimmon Ridge of Portland, where she had been a resident of 6 months.

Ruth was born on December 13, 1910, in Dearborn County, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Flora (Grubbs) Blasdel.

She graduated in 1928 from Bright High School in Bright, Indiana; was a member of the Pennville United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the W.C.T.U.; and a member of the Pennville Township Home Economics Club.

Ruth married William Bryan Guard on June 11, 1932, and he preceded her in death on September 29, 1998.

Survivors include, son, Delmar Lee Guard (wife Mary Beth); daughter, Laverne Long (husband Mike); sister, Doris Sackett; son-in-law, William Daughtery (wife Eileen); nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12 – 2 p.m. in the Pennville United Methodist Church in Pennville.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Pennville United Methodist Church in Pennville. Pastor Chris Tiedeman will officiate, and burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Twin Hills Cemetery in Pennville.
