John Wesley Moore, a Civil War Veteran, was born on February 2, 1827 the son of William Narrisa Moore (b. 1799, d. November 1, 1860 in Emanuel County, Ga.) and Susannah Newton Moore (b. 1807, Duplin County, N.C., d. 1850, Jefferson Co. Ga.). John Wesley married Mary Ann Parker (b. August 24, 1826 and d. January 23, 1885 in Screven Co. Ga.). She was the daughter of James Parker Sr. (d. September 10, 1846) and Elizabeth Sasser Parker (b. 1795, d. 1848). John Wesley and Mary Ann married on June 25, 1853 in Screven Co. Ga. To them were born 7 children:
• Susannah Moore, b. March 17, 1854, Sylvania, Screven Co. Ga., d. July 9, 1935 in Miami, Dade Co. Fl. She married Thomas Jefferson Willis (b. November 3, 1852, d. March 6, 1922) on December 23, 1874 in Screven Co. Ga.
• Jane Moore, b.. April 3, 1856, Screven Co. Ga., d. April 3, 1949 in Screven Co. Ga. She married Samuel Moore Howard.
• William Stanley Moore, b. October 31, 1857, Screven Co. Ga., d. January 19, 1894, Screven Co. Ga. He married Martha M. Newton (b. March 29, 1859 in Screven Co. Ga. , d. August 18, 1929 in Screven Co. Ga.)
• Tabitha Moore, b. April 5, 1860, Screven Co. Ga., d. September 23, 1892 , Screven Co. Ga. She married George Washington Howard (b. October 8, 1855, Screven Co. Ga., d. January 8, 1940, Screven Co. Ga.) in 1880.
• Mary Ann Moore, b. September 28, 1862, Screven Co., Ga., d. January 12, 1867
