On July 25, 1738 at the Scotland Cong. Ch., then in Windham, Conn., Martha m. Rev. Ebenezer Devotion, Jr., s. of Rev. Ebenezer Devotion, Sr. and his 1st wife Hannah Breck, b. May 8, 1714 at Suffield, then part of Hampden County, Mass., since 1749 now in Hartford County, Conn. He was the first pastor of the Scotland, or 3rd Society, Cong. Ch. at Windham, Conn. They had the following six children of record at Windham:
• i. Martha Devotion, b. June 3, 1739; m. Apr. 17, 1761 at the Scotland Cong. Ch. (by her father), then in Windham, Samuel Huntington of Norwich, Conn. with the marriage also certified by Martha's father in the Norwich town records.
• ii. The Hon. Ebenezer Devotion, 3rd, b. Aug. 10, 1740; m. June 7, 1764 at the Scotland Cong. Ch. (by his father), Eunice Huntington, dau. of Dr. Jonathan Huntington and his 1st wife Elizabeth Rockwell, b. Sept. 11, 1742 at Windham, Conn. Seven children recorded at Windham.
• iii. Hannah Devotion, b. Jan. 11, 1742/3; m. Nov. 7, 1764 at the Scotland Cong. Ch. (by her father), Rev. Joseph Huntington.
• iv. Mary Devotion, b. Nov. 20, 1747; she may have been the "Mrs" [Mistress?] Mary Devotion who m. Nov. 24, 1771 at Norwich, Conn., John McClarren Breed, Esq.
• v. Elizabeth Devotion, b. Feb. 28, 1751/2; no confirmed further record found.
• vi. Lucy Devotion, b. Nov. 12, 1754, d. Apr. 13, 1842 at Brooklyn, Conn.; m. Jan. 10, 1779 as his 2nd wife at the Scotland Cong. Ch. (by her stepfather), Dr. Joseph Baker, s. of Dea. Samuel Baker and Prudence Jenkins, b. Dec. 17, 1748 at Windham, Conn. He d. May 16, 1804 at Brooklyn, Conn. Eight children of the family.
On Jan. 31, 1773 at the Hampton, Conn. Cong. Ch. (by Rev. Samuel Moseley), Martha m., as their respective 2nd spouses, her deceased husband's successor at the Scotland Cong. Ch., Rev. James Cogswell, s. of Samuel Cogswell, Jr. and Anne Denison, b. in 1720 at Saybrook, Conn. There were no children of the marriage. At their marriage, he had four living children by his 1st marriage. Following Martha's death Rev. Cogswell m. 3) at the Windham Cong. Ch., the widow Irena (Ripley)(Warner) Hebard (q.v. Hibbard).
