Matthew was the son of Jennifer (Smith) and Gregory Fraser. As a young boy he lived in Greenfield, moving to Nelson at age 11.

Matthew worked as a stable hand at the Dusty Dog Farm in Keene. He enjoyed being with the horses.

He was a junior at Keene High School. His ambition in life was to go to the University of Massachusetts and study arbory. He was an avid outdoors man and environmentalist. He liked to go hunting and fishing.

He enjoyed equestrian horses. He was one of few men who preferred riding English saddle style.

His abilities were well rounded. He was vice president of Keene High School Future Farmers of America in arbory and was a member of the Conservation Club. He enjoyed four-wheeling. This winter was his first year to go hunting with the men and his dad. He had been looking forward to this event many years.

Family members, in addition to his parents of Nelson, include two brothers, Jacob D. Fraser and Andrew W. Fraser, both of Nelson; his grandparents, Barbara Fraser of Nelson and Paul and his wife, Joan, of Bath, Maine and Gail and her husband, Kerry Smith, of Hancock; his great-grandparents, Dorothy Good of Menden, Mass., Wilma and her husband, Kenneth, of North Smithfield, R.I.; and cousin.
