Son of Abraham and Sarah J. Ingraham Waddle.
War Department Records indicate he was 25 years old when he joined as a Private in Company H, Ninth Regiment Kentucky Infantry on November 26, 1861 at Camp Boyle in Adair County, Kentucky. On November 12th, 1862 he was promoted to Hospital Steward and attached to the Regimental Hospital for the duration of his enlistment. He mustered out of the Infantry December 15th, 1864
The Muster Rolls show that he was with Company H up until the time of his promotion and then show him as "Hospital Steward - Ninth Regiment" until Muster Out.
After the war he received his license as a physician.
