("Birth" date entered is actually Christening at Sheffield, Berkshire, Mass. - surname was recorded as Addams)

James Callender Adams was sometimes referred to as "James Adams" and "James Jr."; however, his middle given name was his mother's maiden name, and he later had a son whom was named James Callender Adams Jr., aka "Callender".

James Callender is a son of James Adams and Sarah Callender. Husband of Submit Purchase; they married 27 January 1762 at Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts.

James was father of six children and married Mrs. Trescott after his first wife's death. Buried on his farm at St. Johnsbury, Caledonia, Vermont.

A visit to the Daughters of the Revolution (D.A.R.) Library in Washington DC found verification that James Adams (1737-1813) has already been recognized as a "Patriot" by the D.A.R. He served as a Private in the Continental Army.

A D.A.R. application was previously filed in 1928 by Ms. Elizabeth Adams Nutting. The application was approved on 1 Aug 1929. This same application indicated that James died in Newport, Vermont.

Note
Submit's maiden name has been questioned, but official records and her sister's original gravestone inscription clearly show the correct spelling: Tamson Purchase Whaley
