Rudolph Moraw and I, Janie Garth, met in January 1938 in church at Baileyboro, Texas. Rudolph had moved from Cameron, Texas to work for Clifford Dean as a ginner. We dated while he was here and wrote to each other during the summer when he was working in Robstown, Texas.
On April 2, 1940, Rudolph and I were married. Reverend Peter Morsch performed the ceremony in Littlefield, Texas with Curt and Onnie Schmitz as witnesses. We lived in Robstown that summer but moved back to Baileyboro in the fall. Rudolph continued to be a ginner and a farmer.
Our first farm was south of Baileyboro, where our daughter Elizabeth was born July 25,1941. We sold that farm January 3, 1945 and bought one south of Needmore, Texas. Our first son George was born there January 19, 1945.
On October 30, 1947 our home and all its contents burned. We moved in with my parents Grover and Ola Garth until we bought a house and had it moved to our farm. Our second son Charles was born November 11, 1948 in Muleshoe.
On November 6, 1949 while running a combine Rudolph caught his hand in the cylinder. It was severely damaged and had to be amputated. Rudolph was hired as Manager of the Needmore Co-op Gin in 1950 where he was Manager until 1957.
Elizabeth started school in Muleshoe in 1947 followed by George in 1951 and Charles in 1955 and all three graduated from Muleshoe High School. The children were active in such school organizations as Choir, FHA, Rodeo Club, Basketball, Football and FFA. Both boys played Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. After graduation Elizabeth took Business and Modeling courses. George attended Eastern New Mexico University at Portales, NM and Charles went to South Plains College in Levelland, Texas and West Texas State in Canyon, Texas.
Rudolph is a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Bula-Enochs Lion's Club. In 1970 he was a candidate for County Commissioner. He won over the encumbant and is now beginning his seventeenth year as Commissioner. I, Janie, am a member of the Trinity Baptist Church Choir, a Charter member of the Needmore Community Club, and the Community Singing Group. I am a graduate of Baileyboro High School.
Rudolph and I have worked with Muleshoe Junior Rodeo Club for years as members and helpers in the concession stand. I had the pleasure of making their chili for twnety-three years. At first we used trailers to sell our chili from, then we had a building. I remember one year a horrible cloud and sandstorm came up. Bobbie Harrison and I took boxes and lined the building to help keep out the sand and wind. I am now making chili for the 4-H and Bailey County FFA stock shows. We enjoy working with young people.
Our daughter Elizabeth is married to Charlie Hoyt. She has two children Richard Wells and Donita Wells James. Charlie also has two children, Randy Hoyt and Cathy Hoyt Wilson. Cathy has four children, Jason,, Jaime, Curtis and Justin.
Our son George married Beverly Kellett, who has two children, Robert and Letha. George and Beverly have also raised her nephew Richard Knight.
Our other son Charles married Sheila Kelley. They have two daughters, Leigh and Leslie. Needless-to-say our children and grandchildren are the "Apples of our eyes" and our love. (Submitted by Janie Lou Moraw)
