Thomas Grant and his daughter, Ruth Grant were in their cotton fields when a thunderstorm came to the area. Ruth Grant ran for home but Thomas Grant stayed under a tree. He was struck and killed by lightning, his daughter was knocked unconscious.
Graveside services were officiated by Brother B.A. Snoddy of Graham. Brother Snoddy officiated his wife's services. He had known the couple since 1896. Rev. Buck and Rev. Dow Hawkins, relatives of Thomas Grant's wife, made brief talks at the funeral speaking of the virtues of Mr. Grant as they had known him closely for many years. Mr. Grant lived a useful life in the community and was a kind neighbor. Brother J.C. Grimes and Rev. T. Edgar Neal of Graham were present and took part in the services.
Survivors; wife; daughters - Clara Ruth Grant and Mary Annie Grant, sons - Henry George Grant, Charles Edgar Grant, Wallace Marion Grant, and William Hobson Grant.
