She lived on her parents farm in Woodland, Decatur Co, Iowa. Their farm was close to that of the Dunlavy's and William 'Bill' Dunlavy married her when he was home on furlow from the Civil War. They had 10 or 11 children, several of whom died as children. Julia's parents where Obidiah Blakesley and Harriet 'Carter' Blakesly.
