Son of JOHN LOCKE BOOTY and Helena Mercer (Beall) Booty.

1856-John and Helena are in Beckville, Texas area. John Booty had built and was teaching at The Booty School.

1861-Completed education at McKenzie College in Clarksville, Texas.

September 25,1861 Joined Company F/10th Texas Cavalry.

Promoted to Captain circa Battle of Pea Ridge/AR.

September,1864 Captain Booty was taken prisoner at Tensas Parish, Louisiana/imprisoned at Natchez, Mississippi.

December 21,1864 taken to Fort Warren, Massachusetts, George's Island in Boston Harbor, where he remained until his release on June 12, 1865.

Married Elmina Chapman Maddox/ December 17, 1868 in Rusk County, Texas.

1870- 12th. Texas Legislature for Rusk and Panola counties.
1873- 13th. Texas Legislature for Rusk and Panola counties
1876–1884 and 1889–1891 Served as District Judge
of Panola, Shelby, Rusk and Harrison Counties

Practiced law with the Booty and Young Law Firm in Marshall, Texas

1899- Served on the Faculty of the School of Law at Fort Worth University.
