City Resident Succumbs At 101

David Riley Tackett, 101, died at his home, 914, 914 Third Ave. SE, at 6:20 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel.

The Rev. Ollie Linkous and Rev. Dan Johnson are to officiate. Burial is to be in City cemetery with Brown of Decatur directing.

Mr. Tackett was a native of Illinois but had made his home in the Decatur area for approximately 65 years or more.

He had not been ill enough to go to bed until a month ago yesterday, his son said today. He had never been in a hospital ill.

He had good eyesight and hearing up until the time of his death. He was employed at Decatur Box and Basket Co. for over 40 years.

Mr. Tackett retired in 1939.

He was not a licensed minister of any denomination but had done much preaching and evangelistic work in this area. In this work he covered quite a bit of territory and met many people.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mary Tackett, Decatur; two sons, L.M. of Decatur and David Riley Tackett Jr, of Chattanooga.

Body was to be returned to the home of L.M. Tackett at 102 Somerville Rd NE today and remain there until 11 a.m. Wednesday.
