Anchorage resident Theodore Max "Ted" Wells,
46, died July 14, 2009, at Providence Extended Care in Anchorage after a battle he
had waged against cancer since late 2007. The funeral is scheduled for noon Monday
at St. John Orthodox Cathedral in Eagle River, with viewing from 11 a.m. to noon. A
graveside services will take place at 4 p.m. at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery in
Anchorage. Ted was born Sept. 5, 1962, in Valdez, where he lived until 1980. He
graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from
Oregon's Linfield College in 1984, followed by post-baccalaureate studies in accounting
at the University of Oregon through 1987. He earned certification as a public
accountant in June 1990. He worked as senior accountant at Thomas Head & Greisen
and as controller at Medical Park Family Care in Anchorage through the 1990s; and as
controller with New Sagaya from 1999 through 2008. Top among his many interests
and activities were hockey, golf, basketball, fishing and real estate investment. His
family wrote: "Ted is a great friend and family man, and a born father. He delighted in
his family and enthusiastically attended sporting events with his children. He enjoyed
camping and fishing with his family. Ted was hospitable and outgoing, and he
cherished his friends and family." Ted is survived by his wife, Shelly; his son, Tayler;
and daughter, Makenna; stepsons, Jorgon and Isaiah Ryan; stepdaughter, Danielle
Ryan; his mother, Betty Wells; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynn and Jerry Bellezza,
Mary and Denny Wegner, Jean and Curtis Sutton, Grace and Pat Brayton, and Laura
and Stephen Lappies; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Tanya Wells; and many
delightful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Max Wells.
The family has asked that any memorial donations be sent to Southcentral Hockey
Association/Wells, 1301 E. Dowling Road, No. 110, Anchorage 99518. Arrangements
are with Anchorage Funeral Home and Crematory.
