Philip Rohr was born in 1808, in Rockingham County, Virginia, United States. The Battle of Port Republic occurred there in the American Civil War. He was the son of Jacob Stansbury Rohr and Deborah Travis.

He married Annie Neff in Upshur County, Virginia (WVA). They had 12 children all born in Rockingham County. He and family moved to Little Pecks Run, Virginia (WV), about 1845 or 50. He came from Barbour County to Mill Creek the spring of 1860, having purchased land there the fall before. Later moved to Frozen Camp, West Virginia, 15 mi. East of Ripley. Occupation: Wheel-right and mechanic.

Philip Rohr II, was born May 15, 1859 son of Phillip Rohr and Annie Neff, of Rockhingham County, Virginia, grandson of Jacob Stansbury Rohr of Virginia. In 1878 he went to Illinois, from there he went to Arkansas, where he remained for one year and went South to Texas where he lived twelve years, returning to West Virginia in 1900. He married Alice Victoria Wilson, daughter of Robert Wilson of Lewis County, deceased.

Mr. Rohr is the youngest child of his father's family, owns twenty-four acres of land in Warren District, in which he now lives and has had the remarkable experience of living twenty-seven weeks on the plains of Texas without seeing either a house or a woman.
