Baraboo, WI. - Kenneth William "Ken" Volz, age 96, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023. Ken was born on September 15, 1927, in Ableman (Rock Springs), Wisconsin, to William and Marie Volz. He graduated from Lime Ridge High School in 1945 and went directly into the Army where he served two years during WWII. After his honorable discharge, Ken moved to Baraboo and worked at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant (BAAP). He met Joan "Jody" Goad, the love of his life, and they were married on New Year's Eve in 1949. Ken and Jody had two children, Josee and Jerry, while living at Badger Village. When BAAP closed in 1958, Ken moved the family to Aurora, Illinois, and worked for Caterpillar. In 1960, he had another son, Kurt. In 1963, Ken moved the family to Janesville, Wisconsin, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor for General Motors. In 1966, Ken got a call from BAAP when it reopened due to the escalating Vietnam War. He worked there as an area supervisor until his retirement in 1991. Ken and Jody loved to spend the summers at their lake home in Phillips, Wisconsin. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and hosting the grandkids at Camp G&G. They loved to travel to places like Alaska, Glacier Park, Banff, Maine, and Branson. Some of their favorite times were spent in Baraboo where they bowled in several leagues, played cards with friends and family, and actively participated in the Elks Lodge and American Legion. After Jody passed away in 2013, Ken spent a lot of his time traveling around Baraboo to many of the local establishments. He was a regular at Quindt's Towne Lounge which became his second family. Ken was preceded in death by his mother and father; wife, Jody; daughter, Josee; and sister Audrey. He is survived by two sons, Jerry (Jane), and Kurt (Carla); grandchildren, Crystal (Nick) Davila, Jenny (Matt) Auter, Katie (Ben) Walker, Matt (Laurel) Volz, Michelle (Ryan Solis) Volz, Sara Pfile, Rebecca (Ryan) Baltazar, Jennifer (Josh Yamat) Kornman, and Kimberly (Kevin Savage) Schnell; 11 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Funeral and Celebration of Ken's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 727 8th Street, Baraboo, with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Ken will be buried next to his wife and daughter at St. John's Cemetery in Rock Springs in a private family interment. The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place for the love and care they gave Ken throughout his stay, and to Moments Hospice for all their special care. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ken's name may be given to Beyond Blessed Pantry, P.O. Box 613, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965 (sponsored by Oak Park Place), or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baraboo.
