Child of Edward H. McCaughey and Josephine Tellier. Dates of service: 9 Jun 1943 - 19 Jan 1946.

He was a WW II, US Army Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division, 511 Parachute Infantry Regiment, Company C. The 11th Airborne was known as "The Angels". He jumped into the jungles of Leyte, dealing with terrible battle conditions engaging the Japenese forces. Along with the rest of the 511th, he jumped onto a treacherous rock mountain, known as Tagatay Ridge. Little flat area was open on top, and a number of troopers were killed or injured while landing. There, he and the rest of the unit, engaged in a long, arduous campaign, fighting strong resistance will moving 40 miles, and taking Manila, from the enemy, after receiving tremendous fire for days. After the liberation of Manila, the unit staged a surpise morning jump, allying with Filipon guerillas, liberating the internees at Los Baños prison. Sgt McCaughey was part of the advance reconnaissance for the Liberation of Luzon, his unit receiving the Distinguished Unit Citation August 14, 1945. After the service, He spent his entire career as a wholesale florist. He retired in 1988. He had resided in South Pasedena, FL for 20 years, previously residing in Cumberland, R.I. for 35 years. He was survived by his wife and several children.
