James F Rodgers was the son of Elijah and Elkanzer(Elkansas) Cogbill Rodgers. He was a prosperous farmer and owned a cotton gin and a freight business. He was married twice, first Louise Williams and they had three children Lavern , M M and William A Rodgers Louise died and he then married Ollie Smith. They also had three children, Florence, Carl and Clyde Rodgers. James F (Jim ) Rodgers was the son of Elijah and Elkanzer (Elkansas Alghansey) Cogbill Rodgers. Elijah Rodgers left home one day between 1870 and 1880 and was never heard from again. James being the oldest son became the head of the household. There is no record when Elkanzer died except she was listed in the 1880 census and not in the 1890 census. No record of where she was buried, but probaboy in The Derrisseausx Cemetery. All of her children, James F , Elizabeth (Lizzie) Rodgers Ballard,Mirandy (Randy) Rodgers Nixon, Lecy 9Lecelia) Rodgers Bean, and Celia(Lecelia) Rodgers Moore are all buried in this cemetery.

Elijah Rodgers (Rogers) was born in Georgia in 1834 Elkanser( Elkansas Alghaney) Cogbill was born in Alabama in 1837. Her husband Elijah left home one morning and was never heard from again. I have no record of her death or her burial other than the census records. She was listed in the 1870 records but was not in the 1880 records. i would assume that she was probably buried in the Derrisseaux Cemetery. There is some confusion about the correct spelling of her name. One census record shows a child in the family as Alghansey and the next record shows a child as Elkanses . We are assuming that htis is the same person. The people could neither read nor wrtie so the census taker wrote the name the way they heard it. Many times names and ages were changed. As indicated above Rogers was in the census util 1889 and then is was Rodgers. We have used Rodgers since that time.
