Susan Applebury, age 94, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Susan was born the daughter of W.H. and Tina (Pahl) Zeisler on December 26, 1920, in rural Livingston County east of Avalon, Missouri. She attended Avalon school graduating in 1938 as Valedictorian of her class. She received a scholarship to Maryville Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri, where she attended.
During World War II she taught in rural schools in Livingston County. On March 27, 1945, she married Alvis L. Applebury. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2001. When his tour of duty in the Marines was complete. They began farming on the farm where two children, Buell V. Applebury and Kay F. Lett, were born. She spent seventy years on this farm. She also worked at Milbank Mills in Chillicothe for almost thirty years retiring in 1997. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chillicothe, where she taught Sunday School for twenty years. She was a member of the Optimist Club since 1987.
Survivors include one son Buell Applebury and wife Judy of Chillicothe, Missouri; one daughter Kay Lett and husband Richard of Montrose, Colorado; five grandchildren Tari Graves, Bill Bowe, Kim Bowe, Lisa Currier, and Cherri Yale; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alvis Applebury; one brother Billy Zeisler; and four sisters, Alice Ohge, Nancy Sprague, Fern Shipley, and Lula Koepsel.
Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, July 24, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, July 24, 2015, from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or Braden Cemetery
