Lieutenant Colonel, 135e Régiment d'Infanterie. Awarded the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor (posthumously); from his citation: "For consistent qualities of spirit, energy and remarkable bravery. Wounded twice at the beginning of the campaign, he rejoined his unit before complete recovery. He led his regiment successfully in all the attacks where he was in command." Also awarded the Croix de Guerre with 2 Palms; from his citation: "On September 26, 1914, at Prosnes in the Department of the Marne, his regiment being attacked by considerably stronger enemy forces, he demonstrated qualities of courage, observation, and tenacity, leading his unit in three bayonet counter-attacks during the day, which made it possible to maintain their position and to repel enemy counterattacks with serious losses." Killed in action at a German position just at the moment when his unit had taken the objective.
