Son of Hilda Johanna Gabrielsdtotter Smeds who resided in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Carl, who went by "Robert", served as a Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-24H "Satan's Little Sister" #42-50318, 706th Bomber Squadron, 446th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Fairfield County, Connecticut prior to the war.

Carl was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down near Hosendaal, Belgium during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
