Dan Tarver, prominent Columbia business man, died suddenly at his home Friday morning from a heart attack. He had been ill for the past two weeks and had been in the Caldwell hospital for several days. He had recovered slightly and had been removed to his home in Lakeside Addition and seemingly on the road to recovery when his death occurred. He was 53 years of age at the time of his death.

Mr. Tarver moved to Columbia several years ago from the Aimwell community in Catahoula parish, and became affiliated with the James-Tarver Hardware, then known as the King and James hardware store; since that time he has been closely adherred to community life. He was a member of the local Baptist Church and was active in baseball circles, and at the time of his death was one of the business managers for the Columbia baseball club.

Funeral services were held last Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Columbia, with the Rev. Cline D. Ellis, pastor, in charge. Interment was made in the Welcome Home Cemetery, east of Grayson.

Surviving are his wife, the former Nancy Wright of Aimwell; two sons, Glenn and [(Jimmy) illegible] departure, three brothers, Nick Tarver, Jerome Tarver and Pete Tarver, all residents of the Enterprise community in Catahoula parish; two sisters, Mrs. H. F. Di[en]stbauch of Enterprise and Mrs. T. W. Wyman of Winnsboro.
