She was a member of the Weather Underground, the militant group split off from the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) during the Vietnam war. She died in an accidental explosion along with 2 others in a townhouse in NY city (18 West 11th St.) on March 6, 1970. They were the only people to ever die from one of the Weather Underground's actions. She had led a privileged life, but saw poverty when working in Guatemala for the American Friends Service Committee and wanted to make the world a better place, later she taught children in a radical, free children's school in Michigan in 1966, then joined SDS.
