MRS. LYDIA L. TOWNLEY - Weiser - Mrs. Lydia Louise Townley, 79, a resident of Weiser for the past 65 years, died in a Boise hospital Thursday morning after a six month illness.

Mrs. Townley was born Dec. 14, 1883 in Eskridge, Kan., the daughter of Francis X. and Louisa Kraus. The family moved from Kansas to Seattle by wagon train in the late 1880s. They came to Weiser from Seattle in Nov. 1894.

On Aug. 23, 1905, she was married to Frank Townley, Sr. in Weiser. Mr. Townley died in 1956.

They lived on a homestead on Sturgill Creek for a few years and then moved to Weiser in 1909, residing there the rest of their lives except for a short time when they operated a stock ranch in Malheur County south of Vale.

Mrs. Townley was a member and past matron of the Eastern Star of Weiser.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Arline Braden, Portland, Ore., a son, Lance Townley, Boise, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred L. (Lena) Smith and Mrs. Minnie Irwin, both of Weiser.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Northam-Jones Chapel with the Rev. Howard Bailey officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest.

(My great-grandmother was 79 years and 26 days when she passed away).

LYDIA TOWNLEY DIES IN BOISE HOSPITAL TODAY

Mrs. Lydia Townley, 79, who had live in Weiser since November 1894 - except for about 12 years she lived on a ranch at Sturgill bar - died this morning at St. Alphonsus hospital in Boise. Services are pending.

Mrs. Townley was born December 14, 1883, in Kansas. She moved with her parents to Seattle, Wash., and later to Weiser in November 1894.

She married Frank Townley, Sr., on August 23, 1905. They lived at Sturgill bar, where her husband and Sam Ross had a large ranch, for about 12 years. In Weiser, Mr. Townley, who died in November 1956, was a game warden and a livestock buyer. He ran a butcher shop for many years. They lived in the home at 702 East Park for many years.

Until Christmas time, Mrs. Townley lived in the Mrs. Mary Moulton apartments on East Liberty in Weiser. She was found unconscious in her living room one morning having suffered a hemorrhage. She was taken to the Weiser Memorial hospital and transferred to the St. Alphonsus hospital in Boise.

Mrs. Townley was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Weiser.

Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Will Irwin of Weiser and Mrs. Fred L. Smith of Wilder; one daughter, Mrs. Carl Braden of Portland, Ore.; and one son, Lance Townley of Boise.
