Theodore Alphonso Stevens was born Aug 10, 1872 at Cottonville, Jackson County, IA. In 1873, when he was a baby, he and his family came by covered wagon to West Pleasant Home Precinct, Polk Co., Ne. where he resided most of his life. On Dec 12, 1899 he married Mabel Florence Putman, born Jan 30, 1881. She is the daughter of Horace and Catherine Putman. They lived on a farm northeast of Polk until they retired and moved to Polk, NE in 1946. They were members of the Polk Methodist Church and active in church and civic affairs. Theodore died Jun 26, 1952. Mabel died Nov 11, 1971. They are buried in the Polk cemetery.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church for Thede Stevens, 79, who homesteaded with his parents in Polk County 78 years ago. Mr. Stevens died Thursday at the Stromsburg hospital from a heart attack.
The Rev. Milton O'Connor was in charge of services, and Mr. Stevens six sons were pallbearers.
Mr. Stevens was a trustee of the Methodist church for several years, member of the Polk cemetery board about 40 years, and served as a member of the District 26 school board.
He is survived by his wife, with whom he celebrated their 50th anniversary two years ago; six sons, Wayne of Ewing, Glenn, Earl and Horace of Polk, Archie of Arriba, Colorado, and Raymond of Stockton California; five daughters, Mrs. Julia Sundberg, Mrs. Iva, Birchfield, Mrs. Verna Hammond of Rockford, Ill, Mrs. Berniece Miller and Mrs. Gwendolyn Lindburg of Polk; a brother Will Stevens and a sister Mrs. J. C. McClure.
